An America, Canadian, Estonian, and a Dane Walk Into a Pub

Four days into the semester and I already know that it is going to be great.

I think that at this point all of my roommates are moved in (we have a fifth room, but nobody has come in thus far). We are all international students and we are from all over the world. After knowing them for only a few days, I have a pretty good feeling that this is going to be an incredible semester filled with adventure, mishaps, laughter, and learning about each other’s cultures.

Orientation has been in full swing for the past couple of days and I have had the opportunity to meet a ton of people from all over the world. Last night I had the opportunity to attend my first ever Cèilidh. According to Wikipedia, it is a “A social event with Scottish folk music and singing, traditional dancing, and storytelling.” I never thought line-dancing would be as exhausting as it was last night. Personally, I thought I was incredible at it (not really though). It was a ton of fun, and I had the opportunity to meet a ton of new people with whom I went to the bar after the event.

Before I came to Scotland, I was told that the drinking culture was a huge part of the country’s charm. For the past two nights, we have been going to pubs and bars. It is such a different drinking culture than the one I know in college. I have had some pretty great conversations and the people I have been with are pretty awesome.

I haven’t really made time to take a ton of pictures, but I plan on doing that sometime this week.

Until next time,

-L
